Letter to John Henry Capper. August 25, 1829

In 1829, Sir John Beckett (1775-1847) was Judge Advocate General and Member of Parliament for Haslemere. In this letter, he wrote to John Henry Capper, a Home Office official from 1815 to 1847, who was at the time Superintendent of Prisons and the Hulk Establishment. Beckett wrote to Capper at the instigation of [Michael Thomas?] Sadler (1780-1835), a Member of Parliament for Newark. Sadler had contacted Beckett on behalf of a couple who wanted to visit their son, Samuel James, aboard a hulk, a prison ship.
